Godsmack is an American band from Boston , Massachusetts . The band was founded in 1995 and stands at Republic Records signed. The discography of Godsmack includes five studio albums , one EP , three DVDs and a best-of album . Worldwide Godsmack have more than 19 million albums sold. The band was previously four times for a Grammy Award nominated, however, could never win a prize. The band’s music is a mixture of rifforientiertem , hard rock and metal .
In February 1995, Sully Erna decided to start a new band. Erna played the previous 23 years, drums in bands such as Mind and Stip Meliah Rage and wanted in his new band as a singer occur. The first cast included Erna next to the guitarist Lee Richards, bassist Robbie Merrill and the former Lillian Axe drummer Tommy Stewart. Initially, the group called The Scam and played cover versions of bands like Alice in Chains . The Scam later began to write her own songs. After the completion of the first demos , the band changed the name to Godsmack.
Richards was soon replaced by Tony Rombola, while Stewart had to vacate his position on drums for Joe Darko. After a short time, too, left the band Darko. Erna necessarily played the recordings for the debut album, All Wound Up the drums one myself. The recording took place on a weekend and cost 2600 U.S. dollars . The band borrowed money from a friend. Through countless gigs in the Boston area and they earned Godsmack a larger audience.
All Wound Up was released in 1997 as a private pressing. The radio station WAAF took the song “Keep Away” in the rotation, and the band sold over 1,000 copies of the album a week. Even the song “Whatever” was in the heavy rotation of the transmitter included, as Paul Geary band draws our attention to. The former drummer for the band Extreme , the band for his management company PGE under contract.Meanwhile, Tommy Stewart came back a drummer in the band back when. Godsmack signed a record deal with Republic Records , the album simply re -blended and with a new cover artwork titled Godsmack once published. The album reached number 22 in the U.S. album charts .
Due to personal differences the band had Darko leave and was replaced by his predecessor, Tommy Stewart. Godsmack first played some gigs in clubs, before moving to the Ozzfest tour and were invited at the Woodstock III Festival played. Their first concerts in Europe, the band played as opening act for Black Sabbath . To date, the debut album sold in the U.S. alone over four million copies and was four times platinum award.
Awake, and Faceless (2000 to 2003)
During the tours in 1999 and 2000 the band wrote new songs. The second album Awake was released in the fall of 2000 and increased number five on the U.S. charts at. In Germany and Austria for the first time the band managed the leap into the charts. In the U.S., the album sold so far about 2.5 million copies and was awarded double platinum. For the song “Vampires” Godsmack category were for a Grammy Award in the Best Rock Instrumental Performance “nomination”, the prize was, however, to Jeff Beck .
This was followed by a tour of North America with the Deftones , and a European tour opening for Limp Bizkit . In the summer of 2002, the band split amicably from Tommy Stewart. He was replaced by Shannon Larkin, who was previously in bands such as Amen , Ugly Kid Joe Wrathchild America and played. The U.S. Navy used the songs “Sick of Life” and “Awake” as background music for their commercials .
Also in 2002, Sully Erna received the offer, the soundtrack for the movie The Scorpion King together. His own band contributed the song “I Stand Alone” in which weeks the most played rock song of all U.S. radio stations was 14.  Godsmack house rented in Miami their third studio album to prepare. Faceless appeared in spring 2003 and was in the U.S. in the first week sold 269 000 times. This brought the album topped the U.S. charts at. In addition, “I Stand Alone” and “Straight Out Of Line” in the popular video game “Prince of Persia Warrior Within” used as background music.
One month after the publication was awarded platinum Faceless. “I Stand Alone” in 2003 for a Grammy in the category “Best Rock Song and Best Hard Rock Performance” nomination. The prices were, however, to Bruce Springsteen or the Foo Fighters .
