Korn (Korn often written) is a band from Bakersfield , California , United States . They are considered the creators of the genre nu metal along with Deftones . Like other bands of the era, they have also inspired many of the bands nu metal and alternative metal between 1990 and early 2000.
The band’s catalog consists of nine consecutive debuts in the top ten on the Billboard 200 , including a compilation album, Greatest Hits Vol.1 , and their ninth studio album , released on July 13, 2010. To date, Korn has sold over 30 million albums worldwide, including 16.5 in the United States, while they have won six nominations for Grammy awards , two of whom have won.
Korn was formed when Jonathan Davis led at that time a local band called Sexart, while working as an assistant medical examiner in Bakersfield , California . LAPD was the group that was James ‘Munky’ Shaffer, David Silvera, Reginald “Fieldy” Arvizu and Brian “Head” Welch. LAPD were apparently better known than Sexart and still found a work group that Sexart opposite of what has gone. Munky, Fieldy, and David recorded his debut album, LAPD when just reached the age of majority, and he can hear parts of songs from Korn current. Jonathan, however, remained in Sexart four months.
Both groups met for the only time when Munky and Brian went out one night for Bakersfield for a drink and met with members of Sexart, who were playing that night at the location. According Munky: “As we were leaving, and when we were almost through the door we heard John sing and Brian and I looked with my mouth open! Oh, God! So we turned around, we sat back and watched the whole performance. ”
They waited patiently for the end of their performance group and spoke to Jonathan, a former high school teammate of both. After a chat he was offered the role of a singer in a heavy metal band that were building in Huntington Beach. Initially, Jonathan rejected the proposal, but there was something that made him change his mind. Days later she visited her aunt, devoted to astrology. This convinced him to accept the offer. The family prophecy became an obsession for Jonathan, who kept circling the issue. So I went to see the guys and did a test.
Period nu metal
The group, like Korn, secured the services of a manager who will advise in the world of the music industry, despite the younger members already had some experience. Began to present and record demos and take a few local concerts, featuring innovative music, aggressive, hard and mixing sounds like rap and metal while using guitars 7 strings, which soon caught the attention of the public, industry and imitators. One original sound was a natural evolution of bands like Rage Against the Machine or Red Hot Chili Peppers , bands that mixed some heavy metal with rock and funk . In 1988 the band was born as Californians Deftones , and a year later than the creation of another group Korn’s music scene jumped into this new sound metal, Limp Bizkit , who abanderarían, along with Deftones and Korn themselves, of course, the nu metal , which was conceived in the early 1990s.
After two years of touring they signed with Immortal (subdivision owned by Epic Records ) to record their first album. The band began recording in the studios Indigo Ranch in Malibu Hills , California , to record their debut album, Korn , released in October 1994. Shaffer and Welch played guitars 7 strings, and Davis singing experiences of his dark and troubled adolescence. The band also debuted on the right foot, as their debut album (they have sold over a million copies) playing at Ozzfest, and included concerts with bands such as Ozzy Osbourne , Megadeth and Marilyn Manson .
