Green Day – founded in 1987 in Oakland (California), a punk rock band.
Green Day is part of the California punk rock scene. Childhood friends Billie Joe Armstrong (guitar, vocals) and Mike Dernt (bass, real name is Michael Pritchard) formed their first band, Sweet Children, in Rodeo, ea. California, when they were 14 years old. In 1989, the group was invited by drummer Al Sobrant (Al Sobrante, real name John Alan Kiffmeyer) and they changed their name to Green Day (in honor of one of their songs).
In the same year the band independently released his first EP – 1,000 Hours, which was well received in the punk rock subculture. Later the band signed with local independent label Lookout! Records. In the same year, Green Day released their first album 39/Smooth. Shortly after the album, the band changed drummer Tre at Kula (Tre Cool, real name is Frank Edwin Wright III). He becomes a permanent member of the group.
