Guns N ‘Roses is an American hard rock.
Originals of Los Angeles in June 1985. The group was formed by singer Axl Rose, guitarist Tracii Guns, guitarist Izzy Stradlin, Duff McKagan bass, and drummer Robbie Gardner. The name derives from the combination of the pseudonyms of Guns and Rose. Other group names were Rose and Hollywood Rose.
Hollywood Rose was the band created by Jeffrey Isbell (Izzy Stradlin ‘) and William Rose (Axl Rose) after he left Lafayette, Indiana and settled in Los Angeles. Subsequently transformed into one of the most important bands of hard rock of the late eighties and early nineties: Guns `n` Roses.
The era of Appetite for Destruction
When Tracii and Robbie did not attend the first show of Guns N ‘Roses (in Seattle), Duff called guitarist Slash and drummer Steven Adler, whom he had met recently and who played in a band called Road Crew “and asked if they wished play. The two agreed and the band’s original ended. The band released a new album produced by them, called Live?! * @ Suicide, in 1986. Some copies of the album came to executives at Geffen Records who quickly signed the group. Appetite for Destruction, the debut of Guns N ‘Roses, was released on 31 July 1987. The album sold 20 million copies, had three songs in the top 10 ( “Welcome to the Jungle” “Sweet Child o ‘Mine” and “Paradise City”), and reached number 1 on the charts. Appetite For Destruction is one of the best selling debut albums in history. The next release of Guns N ‘Roses was GN’ R Lies in 1988 that reached number 2 on the charts. This disc includes 4 songs from Live?! * @ Suicide and 4 acoustic songs that stand between “Used to Love Her” and the controversial “One in a Million”. They contributed to the Jungle Welcome to the soundtrack of the movie The Dead Pool (in the Dirty Harry series) that gave the group a few seconds on screen in that movie. In 1989, Guns N ‘Roses were presented as favorites from the American Music Award for the song Pop / Rock Sweet Child O’ Mine. In the 1989 annual gala, Duff and Slash McKaggan appeared drunk and used harsh language and accurate while accepting his award as best album of Heavy Metal by Appetite for Destruction, best heavy metal song by song Paradise City and best rock / pop of the year by Sweet Child o ‘Mine.
Use Your Illusion
Shortly after the release of “Lies”, drummer Steven Adler resigned and left the group. Other members recognized their addiction after Axl Rose spoke about it in “Mr. Brownstone” during his pre-concert performance by the Rolling Stones. In 1990 Guns N ‘Roses returned to his studies with a new drummer Matt Sorum and a new keyboardist Dizzy Reed to begin the most ambitious project in the group. On September 17, 1991 they released Use Your Illusion I and Use Your Illusion II, which rose to number 2 and number 1 in the global rankings for 104 weeks respectively.
After the release of two albums Use Your Illusion, Guns N ‘Roses did a world tour of 28 months, during which Izzy Stradlin left the band and was replaced by Gilby Clarke. The tour included a tribute to Freddie Mercury. During that time, November Rain one of the most rotated videos on MTV, while also winning the award for best video of the MTV Video Music Awards in the category of best video. At the ceremony they played a version of the item along with Elton John.
In 1993, Guns N ‘Roses took a collection of punk versions entitled The Spaghetti Incident?. This disc was not a success of Illusion and the tension increased in the group. In 1994 Axl fired Gilby Clarke. The same year, a version of the Rolling Stones Sympathy for the Devil was recorded by the group, joined Paul Huge (as a replacement for Gilby Clarke), for the movie Interview With the Vampire. Many members began their solo projects (such as with Slash’s Snakepit Slash and Duff McKagan in Neurotic Outsiders). In 1996, Slash left the group, citing creative differences with Axl. In subsequent years, Duff and Matt also left, leaving Axl as the only original member of the group.
New GN’R
In 1998 Axl Rose turned to studies accompanied by drummer Josh Freese (The Vandals), bassist Tommy Stinson (member of The Replacements), guitarist Robin Finck (member of Nine Inch Nails), guitarist Paul Huge (aka Paul Tobias), and keyboardist Dizzy Reed.
In 1999 the band released a new song, Oh My God, that was included in the soundtrack of The End of Days. This song was a prelude to the new album, Chinese Democracy. GNR also brought to the sale Live Era 87-93, a compilation of the original lineup recorded between 1987 and 1993 in concerts. Later that year, Finck returned to Nine Inch Nails to record “Fragile.”
In 2000, the eccentric guitarist Buckethead joined Guns N ‘Roses.
The new lineup returned to the stage in January 2001 with two major high expectation, one in Las Vegas and another in Rio de Janeiro. They were part Axl Rose, guitarists Buckethead, Robin Finck and Paul Tobias, bassist Tommy Stinson, keyboard players Dizzy Reed and Chris Pittman, and member of Primus drummer Brain), the band played a mixture of past successes and new songs highly anticipated CD. The training did two concerts in Las Vegas in late 2001. During 2002, guitarist Paul Huge left the group and was replaced with Richard Fortus, a member of Love Spit Love. The group held several concerts in August 2002, including concerts in Asia and Europe, returning to New York for his sudden appearance at the MTV Video Music Awards.
The first tour group since 1993 had problems. The first concert in Vancouver was canceled because Axl did not show up on time. There was a riot. The tour continued as planned and had mixed results. Some concerts did not fill small venues, while some like those in New York or Boston sold all their tickets in minutes. Due to the non-appearance of Axl in Philadelphia and the result of the riot caused by the fans, Clear Channel, the promoter of the tour, canceled the rest of concerts. In November 2004 the group has not returned to play from the concert on December 5, 2002 at Madison Square Garden in New York.
Group Reports 2001 and 2002 claimed that Chinese Democracy would be released at the end of those years on Interscope / Geffen Records, with whom they appeared to have settled the differences (if any there). The launch is scheduled for February 2005. Despite protests from Rose, legal and otherwise, took on sale Geffen Guns n ‘Roses’ Greatest Hits on March 23. Cleopatra Records also released the album “Hollywood Rose: The Roots of Guns N ‘Roses” in early summer. Again, Rose was unable to stop this release.
In 2002, Q magazine named Guns N ‘Roses in their list of “50 Groups you should see before you die”, also on a sub-list of the 5 groups that may evolve in any way. ”
In March 2004 Buckethead left the band, forcing Axl Rose to cancel the concert May 30 at Rock in Rio 4 (Lisbon, Portugal)
During the months of May and June 2006 is due to the new Guns N ‘Roses they appear in several European countries, starting on 25 May 2006 in Madrid, and following the on May 27 at Rock in Rio Lisbon to present the new disc (which eventually according to statements by Axl on the radio will last to late autumn).
